Trained as a classical musician, I found an equal love for the study of jazz music, with a profound admiration for New Orleans trumpeter, Wynton Marsalis. In August of 2012, Wynton Marsalis performed a concert in Lausanne, Switzerland. Having had a chance to speak with this master, it would forever change my musical path. Mr. Marsalis encouraged me to get closer to jazz; I would decide to immerse myself by playing this music! A year later in my hometown of La Chaux-de-Fonds, I had the fortunate opportunity to perform in concert with the Middle Jazz Trio. It was a pleasure to meet and learn from these experienced musicians, who shared the stage with jazz legends such as Clark Terry, Bill Coleman, Lou Blackburn, Eddie Vinson, Ernie Wilkins, Albert Nicholas, Mezz Mezzrow, Sir Charles Thompson, Jay McShann and Bobby Durham.
Now four years later, and several performances, I have decided to head to the recording studio and through these sessions, approach developing a deeper unders- tanding of jazz, and its traditions. I would like to say a big word of thanks to Wynton Mar- salis for his unwavering support through the years, to trumpeters Roland Hug (trumpeter of Sydney Bechet around 1960), Martin Dahanukar, Roman Schneider and pianist Juan Gonzalez. These mentors were instrumental in helping me find my voice through their guidance. Last, I would like to thank my dear friends from the quartet – Gérald, Bernard and Denis – with whom I have the privilege to play this music.
